the third anniversary of the start of the war in Irak,
the congregation and friends of The Marble Collegiate Church
hung these ribbons on the iron fence surrounding the property.
On each yellow ribbon was attached the name, rank, and age
of each US soldier who had died so far.
Each blue ribbon was a prayer for the 30,000 Iraqi citizens
who had so far been decimated by this war,
while each green ribbon was a prayer for peace.
Today November 4th 2008, many more ribbons have been
and are still added ... but let's hope for an upcoming END.
de chaque soldat US tué jusqu'alors.

Amen!
And a very nice touch to this image including the woman in black.
Very nice colors! A very good composition.
...le 4 novembre 1918, fin de la 1° guerre mondiale.
...le 4 novembre 2008, fin de la 2° époque Bush?
Fantastic set of yellows and blues!
How many more ribbons should be hung to make an update today!!! Maybe this is the day to stop it for good!
Great post!
Beautiful, beautiful sentiment. It brought tears to my eyes as I read this I'm watching Barack Obama voting. Bob Scheiffer is talking about how historic is. I am so hopeful. Thank you for sharing this with us.
A very sad photograph but thank you for posting it. The world is holding it's breath...
Beautiful and sad at the same time.
I agree with Chuck - the passersby caught my attention too!
This is a beautiful display, and very hear-rending.
A beautiful photograph of a moving tribute, Marie-Noyale. Let's hope we get the right President today to put an end to all this.
Most Americans that I know firmly believe we should never have gone to war in Iraq. That it is costing national treasure and so many lives on both sides is a crime.

Too sad. I have the feeling to see a mortuary, a morgue.
Far too many blue and yellow and far too few green streamers. Sad really, but good photo.
Greetings from New Zealand.
