Memories

The first time I saw this ice skating rink,
it was in my hometown in Brittany,
I was a teenager , sitting in a movie theater,
shedding a tear in front of "Love Story" and dreaming about New York...
And although I see it every time "from the bench"...
it always spells r.o.m.a.n.c.e. for me..

I saw the movie but didn't realize this was the skating rink. Thanks for sharing that bit of nostalgia. I like the vignetting you've used with the image. Very effective, especially with the memory context.

Bises !

Comparing this with the tiny Paris ice rink in front of the Town Hall, there is a clear winner! Don't we have a Love Story also with the Central Park?

I saw Love Story too, but must say that I don't remember the skating rink from the film. (I don't remember much from the film at all.)

Cergie January 21, 2009 at 8:40 AM

(Olivier verse sa larme, mais sur NYC !)

Beautiful capture. I'm your newest follower.

Yes, M-N, I think a lot of us had the "Love Story" moment but not all of us got the chance to see it like this for ourselves so this is a treat.

Fantastic!
I know what you mean as this view is almost a NYC winter ex-libris to me! :-)

Bergson January 21, 2009 at 12:13 PM

Catherine January 21, 2009 at 1:17 PM

Le rêve s'est réalisé pour toi.
Ici, nous rêvons devant tes photos, Marie Noyale.
Et continue de nous faire rêver.

Nice shot. Like Chuck said, the vignetting adds to the sense of the photo being nostalgic.

In the film the classic line was "Love means never having to say you're sorry," but as one who has been married many years, I can affirm this is not true:)

Bon retour à ta voyageuse :-))

What a wonderful sentiment. I remember watching Love Story and learning the theme on the piano & crying my eyes out, and wanting to go to Cambridge. Super picture and thanks for the memory.

Jilly January 27, 2009 at 1:07 PM

Oh how fabulous. Just adore the photograph, Marie-Noyale. The perspective is amazing, really giving us an idea of the size of the skating rink in relation to those buildings. Well done!
