Summer weather in New York,
Summer colors on the streets..
This graffiti, was inspired by Keith Harring,
an American artist,famous for his murals,who died at the age of 31.
He would have been 50 years old on May 4th.

Un temps d'été a New York,
Des couleurs d'été dans les rues..
Ce graffiti,a ete inspiré par Keith Harring,
un artiste Americain célèbre pour ses peintures murales,
décédé a l'age de 31 ans.
Il aurait eu 50 ans le 4 mai.

Happy 125th Anniversary

This Memorial Day week end
Manhattan and Brooklyn celebrated
the 125th Anniversary Of the Brooklyn Bridge.
It opened in 1883 the same WE.
Part of the festivities were concerts, lectures,walking tours & bike rides
fireworks and a special lightning of the Gothic stone towers.

Ce week end , Manhattan et Brooklyn ont célébré
le 125 eme anniversaire du Brooklyn Bridge,
qui relie ces 2 quartiers de New York City.
Il a ete ouvert en 1883 pour le Memorial Day.
Parmi les festivitées,il y avait des concerts,des conferences
des tours guidés du pont,des promenades en vélo
un feu d'artifice et l'illumination de ses tours de pierre.

The Larchmont Memorial Day Parade

This Week end, on Monday, we celebrate Memorial Day.
It is a Federal Holiday honoring the soldiers who died during the wars.
In many communities,the Fire & Police Departments,
honor also their members who died in the line of duty,
by holding a parade.The Larchmont Parade was last night,
It always takes place the thursday before the Week end.
Memorial day is also considered the unofficial start of the Summer.

Ce week end,nous célébrons Memorial Day.
C'est toujours le dernier lundi de mai,et c'est un jour férié dans tous les Etats
Il honore tous les soldats morts a la guerre.
Les pompiers et policiers honorent egalement leurs disparus,
et beaucoup de villes et villages ont leur parade.
Celle de Larchmont a toujours lieu le jeudi avant le week end.
Memorial Day est aussi considéré comme le debut de la saison d'ete.

Whatever the way, you wish to spend this end of the week..
Spending time with your loved ones,
enjoying outdoor activities: by jogging or looking at the view,
like the People on this picture..

Almost Extinct...

Yes, some of them are still around!...
A few years ago, Big chains started to flourish at every corner,
forcing the small neighborhood bookstores to close..
But you can still find them.. This one ,called
"Three lives & Company" is in Greenwich Village.
Ah... The wonderful feeling of entering Ali Baba's cave :
the wooden floor that squeaks,the dimmed light,the smell of new books,
the respectful silence... and the knowledge of a true librarian!..

Une race en voie de disparition...
Il y a quelques années, de grands supermarchés du livre ont commencé a
apparaitre a chaque coin de rue, forçant les petites librairies de quartier
a fermer... Mais en cherchant bien, certaines ont resisté...
Celle-ci est située dans Greenwich Village (10th street).
Ah... Le bonheur d'ouvrir la porte de la caverne d'Ali Baba:
le silence respectueux interrompu seulement, par le plancher qui craque..
la lumiere douce et tamisée, l'odeur irremplaçable du livre neuf..
et Surtout la connaissance du ou de la vrai(e) libraire!...

Last week, I showed you another way of recycling.
Today is what the City does to try and maintain it clean...
Sometimes I leave the house,camera in hand,
Hoping to find THE picture that will make me happy and
I run around for hours with no inspiration..
Sometimes,like that day, Every corner seems to deserve a shot..
and even,garbage cans look attractive!!!

La semaine derniere,je vous avais montré une methode de recyclage
Cette fois-ci, c'est ce que la ville offre pour essayer de "rester Propre"..
Il y a des jours, ou je pars,appareil en main,en esperant trouver
LA photo dont je serais fiere,
mais je peux errer des heures sans trouver d'inspiration..
Par contre,un jour comme sur cette photo, chaque coin de rue
me semble meriter un instantané et
même de simples poubelles attirent mon attention!!

Sometimes you have to make a choice...
On the picture taken by her girlfriend,she will have a beautiful smile..
but a huge white plastic tent on the background..
On my picture,we see very nice "back" curves but Also the Manhattan Bridge...
Have you ever thought that somewhere in some photos album (0r blog..)
is a picture of yourself,in a small crowd or alone,
taken by some complete stranger?

in the United States,took place this week end in Brooklyn.
It lasted 4 days and ended tonight.
The Artworks of Contemporary photographs were shown in warehouses.
This young woman is sending a text message...while reading...
while keeping watch of an exhibit from Nigel Parry
and his famous portraits of Celebrities.

Le premier Festival International de la Photographie aux USA
a eu lieu ce week end a Brooklyn. Il a duré 4 jours.
Les oeuvres de Photographes Contemporains
etaient présentées dans des entrepots.
Cette jeune femme envoie un "texto"..tout en lisant...tout en surveillant
une exposition de portraits de Nigel Parry,
connu pour ses portraits de personnes celebres.

Men's Hands

This painting from a young American artist Julia Jacquette
caught my eye this afternoon at a preview,
for a Contemporary Art sale in Chelsea.
Hands have always had a special significance for me.
"A reflexion of our life, of our soul"..
The strong hands that work the earth,the thin hands of a surgeon,
the elongated hands of a pianist,
the short and tiny one that hold yours..

Ce tableau d'une jeune artiste Americaine Julia Jacquette
a attire mon attention cette apres midi avant une vente d'Art Contemporain,
dans une salle des ventes du quartier de Chelsea.
Les mains ont toujours eu pour moi une signification particuliere.
"Le reflet de notre vie ,de notre ame"...
La main forte de celui qui travaille la terre,
celle delicate et fine du chirurgien,la main allongée du pianiste,
celle petite et potelée qui vient se blottir dans la votre...

Field Trip

A private school on a field trip...
Some girls are having fun on their way to the Metropolitan Museum...
Learning outside of the classroom is a lot more exciting !!!

Une ecole privée en promenade scolaire..
Les jeunes filles portent des uniformes,comme il est toujours de coutume ici.
Ces demoiselles semblent etre ravies d' etudier en dehors
de l'enceinte de l'ecole!!! et se dirigent en dansant vers le Metropolitan Museum.

Recycling

Behind the cart carrying those bags full of cans and plastic bottles
is an Anonymous Person.
For every can given back ,in supermarkets,or special centers,
like the one on the photo below, you get 5 cents.
And those carts pushed along the NY City streets
are becoming ,a very common sight...

Derriere ce chariot portant ces sacs , remplis de bouteilles plastiques,
il y a une Personne Anonyme.
Pour chaque plastique rendu,dans un supermarché ou dans des centres
comme celui de la photo ci-dessus,on reçoit 5 cents.
Et ces chariots,poussés le long des rues de NY,
sont devenus une vision courante...

Invisible hands trimming the hedges,
cleaning up and beautifying Central Park.

Des mains invisibles taillent les buissons
desherbent,ratissent, pour embellir Central Park.

Nice Doggie

Every summer since 1987,The Roof Garden of The Metropolitan Museum
exhibits a selection of modern sculptures.
The artist ,this year is Jeff Koons,an American artist born in 1955.
The 3 Stainless steel works are called:
"Ballon dog/Coloring book/Sacred Heart"
You can enjoy this exhibit and
the wonderful views of Central Park and Manhattan skyline
until October 26.

Tous les étés depuis 1987, La terrasse sur le toit du Metropolitan Museum
expose les oeuvres d'un sculpteur contemporain.
C'est le cas cette année,de l'artiste Americain Jeff Koons.
Les 3 sculptures en acier chromé s'intitulent:
"Chien ballon/Album a colorier/Sacré Coeur".
Cette exposition , la vue magnifique sur Central Park et les
Gratte ciel de Manhattan

My Dad took this picture on the Piazza San Marco in Venice..
Today is a day to look back..
May 8th is my Birthday,but it's not a holiday here,
It became one,in France, the year I moved to the USA!!

Cette photo a ete prise il y a quelques "petites" années
par mon papa sur la Place San Marco a Venise.
Aujourd'hui est un jour a se replonger un peu en arriere..
Le 8 Mai est le jour de mon Anniversaire,
malheureusement ici ce n'est pas un jour ferié,
Il l'est devenu l'année ou je suis partie vivre aux Etats Unis!!!

Perfect Posture

When I saw the perfect angle,I had to take the shot and
I was reminded of the first black and white short film by
Louis Lumiere: 'The sprinkler sprinkled",in 1895
and in this case.. "The Photograph being photographed".

Quand j'ai vu la pose parfaite,il me fallait l'immortaliser!!
Et le court metrage de Louis Lumiere en 1895
m'est venue a l'esprit : "L'arroseur Arrosé"
et dans le cas present.. "Le photographe photographié"

My New York City Numbers may be Sombers.
But It is good sometimes to take a pause and think.
That is what I did when I saw this sign on 86th st and 3rd Avenue.

Les nombres que j'ai choisi aujourd'hui ne sont pas tres gais.
Mais il est parfois utile de faire une pause et reflechir.
C'est ce que ce signe placé au coin de la 86eme rue et la 3eme avenue
m'a incitée a faire.
